25 August 2010 – The Nokia E72 and Nokia E5 are Blackberry-type full Qwerty keyboard devices in the Nokia E-Series devices. The E-Series is commonly used to denote Enterprise class devices which are designed with the business user in mind.
Just as the E72 is the successor model to the E71, so the E5 succeeds the E72. Surprisingly, the newer E5 has an inferior battery, 1200 mAh versus the 1500 mAh of the E72, subsequently the talk time rating has dropped but the standby time has increased. Is it possible that a way has been found to make the device consume less power on standby? We really don't think so.
Both the phones are identical in almost every way, running the Symbian 9.3 OS and utilising 5-megapixel cameras with almost identical features across the board. However, the E72 has a front camera for video calls.
The screen of the E72 is a 16M colour type and the screen of the E5 is a 256K colour type. Include the front-facing camera and it is obvious why the E72 costs a little bit more than the newer E5. It would then come down to whether you want to pay a little but more for a couple of extra features.
Nokia E5 (RM 760 - 775)
The Nokia E5 is designed for those that want to be productive in both their professional and personal lives, and follows devices such as the Nokia E72 and Nokia E63. It combines high quality business features with all of the personal networking and entertainment capabilities that a busy professional expects from a smartphone.
The Nokia E5 is optimized for messaging and e-mail with a full messaging keyboard and support for EGPRS, WCDMA, HSDPA/HSUPA (3.5G) and WLAN. Take photos with a 5-megapixel Full Focus (EDOF) camera. Write messages with intelligent text input; enjoy videos, music, and graphics on the 2.36 inch QVGA display. Additional features include GPS and Ovi Maps 3.0, UPnP, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, and USB 2.0 High-Speed. Supported WCDMA frequencies depend on the region/variant where the device is available.Nokia E72 (RM 960 - 990 AP)
Building on the formula from the hugely successful Nokia E71, Nokia's best selling QWERTY device to date, this latest arrival in Nokia's Eseries family maintains essential elements of its predecessor, whilst still improving its capabilities in a number of areas. Nokia also upgraded the camera to 5 megapixels and added a standard 3.5 mm audio jack.
On top of these developments, for the first time, owners will be able to set up instant messaging (IM) accounts provided by Nokia Messaging direct from the homescreen. In just a few steps, device owners will be able to connect to their favorite IM accounts such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, amongst many others.
